February 27, 2011: Local Food, Organic Food, Sustainable Food

Liz talks with Dan Barber, top chef and owner of the popular Blue Hill Restaurants in New York which use food from local sources.  He was featured in the “Time 100″ in 2009 – Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people of the year – and he has been appointed to President Obama’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition.  His writing has been featured in the New York Times and The Nation, and he recently gave a popular TEDTalk entitled “How I Fell in Love with a Fish.”

Also joining us is George Thorman, co-chair of the Dartmouth Organic Farm.  The farm, located in Hanover,  is student-run, and provides a hands on farming experience for students.  The farm also serves as a workshop for sustainable food and energy systems.  George tells us about what students are doing to get involved in the organic and sustainable farming and local food movements.
